Food gives forth 3 basic needs -- a supply of energy, support of new tissue growth and repair, and it helps to regulate metabolism. It is necessary to have a proper balance of all six major classes of nutritients for the body to function properly. One must follow a proper nutrtion program to achieve optimal healthy results.
Carbohydrates - Starches and sugars provide our bodies with energy and they are the prefered fuel source for most types of activity.
Fats - Fatty Acids are divided into 2 catagories -- saturated and unsaturated. Fats are necessary for growth, healthy skin, and healthy hair. Fat also insulates and protects the body's organs against trauma and exposure to cold. They are also responsible in the absortion and transportation of vitamins.
Protein - The major component of all the body's tissue, protein is required for growth and repair.
Vitamins - They regulate the metabolism and govern the processes of energy production, growth, maintenance, and repair.
Minerals - Used to build bones and teeth, minerals regulate muscle contraction, conduction of nerve impulses and regulate normal heart beat.
Water - The most essential of all nutrients, water controls body temperature, energy production and the elimination of waste products from metabolism.
